Botanical Name: Annona muricata

Origin: Jamaica

Soursop, also known as graviola or guanabana, is the fruit of Annona muricata, a type of tree native to tropical regions of the Caribbean, Mexico, Central and South America and parts of South East Asia.

The leaves are popularly used around the world as a source of nutrition in supporting the body. The leaves can be dried and used to make an herbal tea, which is believed by many to treat, prevent, and cure cancer*. However, there is no overwhelming evidence to support those claims.

In addition to its anticancer properties, some people use soursop to treat infections, coughs, weight loss, inflammation of the nose and throat, and parasitic infections such as lice. Others may use soursop tea to induce vomiting or to increase relaxation*.

Soursop is also a good source of antioxidants, which might help the body repair cell damage and combat inflammation*.
